Project Kickoff and Information Gathering

Discovery Interview and Project Consulting

By the time your company and METAPILOT have reached the discovery interview stage, we have already participated in preliminary questions and answers, we have done preliminary keyword research, you've accepted our proposal and it is time to move the process to the next step.

Now we want to review goals and expectations for the project, discuss what keywords choices we expect to be most effective, discuss differentiating factors between your company and your competitors and discuss differentiating factors between your site and your competitors’ sites.

Through the discovery interview, we also want to better understand your business.  Every optimization is made more successful when we can utilize information that differentiates your business from your competitors.   We know the search engines but you are the one who knows your business best and you can be a big help to the outcome of the optimization in this part of the process.  Details on your products, services, company, history location, bricks and mortar competition, generic equivalents, industry leaders, and complementary products and services can assist us in formulating keyword lists, evaluating competition, and revision of copy to be used in the optimization.

A final point we want to cover in the discovery interview is your current web site. Our goal for each optimization is that it has as little impact on the site’s look and feel as possible. On the other hand, an optimized page with text is going to look different than an un-optimized page without text. We may also suggest changes that affect look and feel for sites or individual pages that lean heavily on flash, java or frames. The use of these technologies can be detrimental to high search engine rankings and in the discovery interview, we will point out these roadblocks and suggest viable alternatives.
